The History Of Sacred Heart

The Catholic Church of Bloomfield, Sacred Heart Parish, at the corner of Broad and Liberty Steets, has been a staple church in the town for over 100 years. Founded in 1878, Reverend Nardiello served as the original pastor, opening the first church building on Bloomfield Avenue and Liberty Street in November 1878. 14 years later, the pastor also oversaw the construction of the current church building (Bloomfield Avenue). In homage of Reverend Nardiello, a statue was later placed on Liberty Street side of the church and is still standing to this day!

Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Parish later opened a parochial school in 1878. The school is now a Catholic community that offers academic education in the environment of faith and virtue for the children of the families that attend Sacred Heart Church.
