Middle Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 10,419 at the 2010 census. Middle Valley is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Middle Valley is located in northeastern Hamilton County at (35.189798, -85.158674). It is bordered to the northeast by the city of Red Bank and to the southeast by the unincorporated community of Birchwood. U.S. Route 27 passes through the center of Middle Valley, leading northeast 19mi to downtown Chattanooga and southwest 28mi to Cleveland. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 12.3km2, all of it land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 10,313 people, 4,140 households, and 3,232 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,668.1 people per square mile (642.3/km2). There were 4,380 housing units at an average density of 702.8 per square mile (268.8/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 97.57% White, 0.71% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.19% from other races, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.76% of the population. There were 4,140 households, out of which 31.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.1% were non-families. 15.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.76. In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 21.7% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 30.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.0 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $54,580, and the median income for a family was $60,625. Males had a median income of $43,576 versus $26,875 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $25,780. About 4.6% of families and 5.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 6.7% of those under age 18 and 8.7% of those age 65 or over.
